We had to remove 950 square feet of old wallpaper, of three different varieties. We saw the Wallwik video, read the hype, and decided to risk $20 on the Wallwik sheets. All they are is some fabric sheets that hold a lot of moisture, and thus keep the paper moist while the liquid solution (we used Zinsser 2422 22-Ounce DIF Wallpaper Stripper Concentrate) does its work.
The sheets do make the job much easier and faster, and I would recommend them. But they are not miraculous. Here's how they work: they keep the wallpaper moist for 15 minutes or longer, and they cling to the paper well enough that you can usually pull the paper off the wall in one big piece, for the most part. You still have to scrape the stubborn spots and you still have to scrub the remnants of paste off the wall once the paper is off.
It was helpful to scrape off the outer plasticized/foil surface of the wallpaper before using any liquids. Sanding the surface would be my second choice. Scoring the surface with that PaperTiger tool doesn't work nearly as well. Of course, your experience may vary.
We learned (on our own) that it was helpful to spray the wallpaper immediately before putting the Wallwik sheets up. Otherwise the wallpaper immediately wicks the moisture out of the sheets, in which case you have to keep spraying the sheets, which isn't quite as effective. The sheets are reusable indefinitely. Once you master the technique, you can keep 5 or 6 sheets going, assuming a 15 minute application.
