(More customer reviews)I became aware of the Westcott Modern Vintage line of backgrounds back in the spring of 2010 when they ran a naming contest for the new products on their website. I liked what I saw and was anxious to get my hands on one of them. Finally, they were released and after vacillating back and forth for a week, finally decided to obtain the Onyx as my evaluation subject.
It arrived and I set to work trying it out. The background is sturdily made, with strong seams and well-hemmed edges. The pattern is not printed on the fabric, but rather is a layer of velvet-like flocking that is attached to the underlying fabric. The velvet layer absorbs light very effectively, whilst the under layer has just a bit of shine to it. This makes for a very flexible background. By varying the intensity of the background lights, I can render the pattern subtle or obvious.
The background came packaged in a sturdy cardboard box with a carry handle, which can be effectively re-used for storage and transportation. It also included an interesting cloth that can be used to get bits of lint off the velvet flocking.
I appreciate and enjoy this background very much, and am planning on getting more of the line in the future.
