I love it, it fits perfectly. And just to make sure the edges didn't get dirty I also brought a clear case to go over it. It's a big help if you want it to last longer.

Sanyo Zio Android Phone (Sprint) Review

Sanyo Zio Android Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This phone has a lot of potential, but seems to fall short of it more times than not.
Pros
-inexpensive
-large, high res display for a budget phone
-lightweight
-solidly built
-android 2.1 (as opposed to 1.6 for the cricket wireless version)
-good call quality
Cons
-phone seems laggy, even for physical buttons
-screen is supposedly "capacitive", yet hard taps are required to operate it, especially near the sides (which are slightly curved)
-screen sometimes lags when swiping, even with very few apps running
-physical buttons are placed too low on the phone
-no multitouch when browsing
-not much internal memory
-details are sketchy about 2.2 upgrade
-low speaker volume
-battery life (but what smartphone doesn't have this issue?)
-doesn't seem to support live walpapersI know I have more cons than pros, but the phone itself is respectable, even moreso the further you can get below the $100 (subsidized) price point. Most of the negatives have to do with the UI, but once you've started your app, the sound and display are satisfactory.

Sony Ericsson S500i Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, Memory Stick Micro Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Mysterious Green) Review

Sony Ericsson S500i Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, Memory Stick Micro Slot--U.S. Version with Warranty (Mysterious Green)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this phone in purple - in support of pancreatic cancer awareness and because I wanted a quad band phone.
It is nice to look at, has a nice "feel", but the features are basic.
There is very little you can do with it in terms of the telephone aspect of it. I guess it is great for photos, especially since it has the photo editor. The screen is the best feature on this phone. It is big and performs well even in direct sunlight (a plus for the camera users). After 6 photos which I transferred from my Nokia I was told that the memory was full. My Nokia 6320 has loads of photos and music on it.
With regard to ringtones, you'd probably have to buy the memory card, or stick with what they have on the phone. I was not too enthusiastic about the ringtones the phone came with. I like naturelike sounds and classic ringtones. I read a review which said that Sony was targetting the younger folk (I am 45), so that accounts for the type of ringtones and graphics which are embedded in the phone.
The slide mechanism is sturdy, as is the keypad. The slits which represent the select and menu buttons can be a tad difficult if you have long nails, or large fingers (again the target was young folk).
The downsides are that the vibrating mechanism is weak and for some reason unknown to me, after 45 minutes of talking on it, the phone cuts off.

Expect the unexpected with the Sony Ericsson S500i slider phone, which features unique external light effects and visual display accents. Hidden illumination appears to highlight a certain event and the keypad glows with energy when the slim slider is opened. The display themes can also change when you want--with the seasons, as day turns to night or when the weekend begins. Featured in a Mysterious Green, the quad-band S500i is nicely slim at just 14mm (0.55 inches) thin and it boasts a brightly colorful 2-inch LCD with support for 256K colors. Other features include a 2-megapixel camera, multi-format digital audio player, Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion, and Bluetooth stereo music streaming.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). Powered by GPRS/EDGE Class 10 (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) technology, this phone makes information exchange a breeze by offering immediate mobile connectivity. It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.
The S500i brilliant 2-inch display has a QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels) with 256K colors, perfect for its emphasis on beautiful imagery. It comes with three themes to choose from: Clarity, Day & Night, and Everchanging. The latter changes the phone's animated wallpapers and illuminated color menus as day turns to night and as the months change on the calendar.
The S500i phone offers a full-function Walkman digital audio player that's compatible with MP3 and AAC files. Other Walkman features include a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC.
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be setup to fit your personality. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). And the S500i makes it easy to send snapped photos directly to a blog or an online photo, complete with text.
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages.
The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard. This means the phone can be used with the included Sony Ericsson Sync Station software, which lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks on your PC with the phone.
Other features include:
Up to 1000 contact entries, each with five number fields
Java support for online and offline 3D games (preloaded games include PacMan and Ms. PacMan)
USB 2.0 wired connectivity with mass storage capability
PIM functions including calendar, tasks, notes, alarm, calculator, stopwatch, and timer
T9 text entry technology
72-chord polyphonic ringtones and MP3 ringtones
Digital audio file formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+

Vital Statistics The Sony Ericsson S500i weighs 3.3 ounces and measures3.9 x 1.8 x 0.5 inches. Its 900 mAh lithium-polymer battery is rated at up to 9 hours of talk time, and up to 370 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies.

Net10 Motorola Prepaid Cellular Phone - Blue (NTGC139) Review

Net10 Motorola Prepaid Cellular Phone - Blue (NTGC139)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the $50 bucks you pay here, you get the phone plus 300 minutes of airtime. That's not a bad deal considering if you bought the phone itself elsewhere, it would be $20 bucks, and buying the airtime separately would also total approximately $20 some odd bucks or so. Plus tax. So cost works about to be about the same. Frankly, I see no savings to buying this phone on this site versus elsewhere.
Regarding the sim card, I noticed nothing unusual or problematic about insertion. A sim card is a delicate silicon apparatus that is highly susceptible to ESD -electro static discharge- just like computer RAM is. ESD is probably the primary reason why so many reviewers phones here have failed. I'd bet every single one of them reside in geographical locations where the weather is cold and snows. Before you handle the sim card, you should "ground" yourself by touching something metal. Otherwise you run the risk of destroying the sim card with ESD.
The phone itself is OK. It's BASIC. Emphasis on the basic.I just transferred my mobile # from a Motorola V120c and notwithstanding the annoying 20 polyphonic ringtones on the c139, about the only edge the c139 has over the V120c is the color display. Please also note that c139 does not have any kind of interface as to a pc so that means you are stuck with the bundled ringtones and the wallpaper. IMO, Motorola could have added a port to accomodate a USB interface to this model. It was short-sighted and just dumb not to considering the V120c -also in the same price range- has such a port.
Voicemail is extremely problematic to set up at this time. I only just had the phone activated on this past Saturday (10/28/06) and it took over 5 hours for my number to be transferred over to the new phone. Also, it is an entirely new network. In Southern California, the network this model TracFone uses is Cingular.
Suffice it to say, I followed all the instructions on the website explicitly, however Cingular just keeps regurgitating its canned message that it doesn't recognize my number and to input my voicemail number. And around and around it goes. I anticipate nothing but problems with "technical support" when I contact them. They are very polite as customer service reps, however they can barely speak or understand English. I am envisioning hours of BS with the call I have to make because past experience has indicated to me that these reps are not technical whatSOever. Note to Tracfone: Customer service reps from Mexico who can barely communicate with your American consumers are most assuredly NOT TECH SUPPORT.
Also, I wasn't overly impressed with the keypad where it concerns text messaging. The V120c is actually more intuitive. It's much easier to use. But the c139 does have one advantage in this regard - text messages cost only 0.3 units versus on the V120c, TracFone was deducting 0.5 units for each incoming and outgoing text message. I'm not sure why that is considering the deduction of units has zip to do with the model of the phone. It should be one uniform deduction across the board. Consumers should contact TracFone customer service and inquire about this phenomenon.
Bottom line is that I would recommend this phone to anyone who is upgrading from a monochromatic LED phone and wants an *inexpensive* phone with a much easier on the eyes color display. Inexpensive as in you bought it from a retailer for $20 bucks. But if you want pretty new ringtones and wallpaper, and a little more flexibility, then get yourself a Nokia 2126. For the same money you spend here, the Nokia is a better phone. It has a USB port, a speakerphone, plus other extras. And you probably won't have any trouble setting up the voicemail either.

Motorola AT&T Pay-As-You-Go Cell Phone - C168i Review

Motorola ATandT Pay-As-You-Go Cell Phone - C168i
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, my phone that came with my service plan is.. well.. its now a paper weight (darn razrs!!) I didnt want to spend another 100+ on a phone that wil just break, then i stumbled upon these gophones, they are from 19.99-99.99 at best buy and work perfectly with my AT&T monthly subscription SIM card, so its just a crazy cheap phone.
The battery life is AMAZING, its rated 9 hours, when i first bought it i opened it in the store and turned it on, it had 1 bar. It wasnt for another 3 hours untill i got home to charge it, and it still had the same 1 bar of battery life. I also talked a good 25 minutes too.
VERY durable, i love the battery back, its not one of those slide ones (like some Sony phones), and its not one where you just push a button (like the RAZR). its a combination, you press the butten and then slide, it works REALLY WELL so there is very little chance you will break/lose the cover.
came preloaded with 3 games for me, this cool space invader style game, a soccer game, and this weird mole game that is my personal favorite. Came with a TON of actually decent tones you can set as your ringtone.. unlike the RAZR which came with a horrid selection.
it also came with an unactivated brand new sim card. so if your like me and you just bought this phone so you can put your old sim card into it, you will get a bonus sim card that you can sell on craigslist for like 10-15 dollars, seeing that it came with one of the new 3G cards.
my only real complaint is that the keypad is really cramped, but its still easily usable, but you still get the feeling that its cramped, and my phone only came with 3 preloaded images to set as my wallpaper, and at times the call quality is a little shakey, but it rarely happens and when it does it goes away very fast... but for 30 dollars! thats a fraction of a price than the cheapest upgrade service plan phone. ----
I really doubt anybody will actually read this edit, but it is definitely worth a mention. I have had this phone since august (its Feb. 11). I hope dropped it countless times, this phone WILL NOT BREAK. Seriously, I've tried.
I take horible care of this phone. I wanted to test its durability (and show off to my friends that my 20 dollar phone is more durable than your 5,000,000,000 dollar one) As demonstrations I've thrown it at trees, walls, concrete sidewalk, I've thrown it in the snow... hell I've even tossed it on the concrete and invited my friends to join me in a game of soccer with it. No joke.
I didn't just do this once, but several, several times. The worst that has happened to it is the battery-cover snapped off and the battery fell out, all I had to do was put the battery back in, snap on the cover and turn the phone on.
After about 4 months of treating it like that I did the same thing, actually just today (Feb. 11th). I chucked it at the concrete ground, the battery/battery cover flew off (as usual) but to my surprise when I turned it on I had a small black bar through the screen, but even more surprising is that it still works perfectly, everything does.
It amazes me how poorly I've taken care of this phone, if I had done even 1/16th of the things I did to this phone to my old RAZR I can assure you it would have snapped in half or something.
I highly recommend this phone. I'm going to buy another one soon, heck I might even pick up 2 one for an emergency replacement.

(More customer reviews)
After my dreadful V551, I was hesitant to return to Motorola. Since my Sony Ericsson S710a didn't work out, and since my wife's V3 has been solid so far, I decided to give Moto one more chance with the V3i.
First, the build quality and materials are EXCELLENT. The machined aluminum outer casing, and machined nickel keypad, provide substantial heft (this is good) and tactility. Moto could've used a little better plastic in places, but it's fine otherwise.
Second, although its resolution is lower than the S710a's, the V3i inner display's physical screen size is about the same. Meaning it's plenty large, not to mention clear, colorful, and bright. The outer display is nothing special, but it is a compromise for better battery life, so I can live with that.
Third, unlike Sony Ericsson, the new Moto's (V3i, SLVR L7, etc.) sport an industry-standard mini-USB charging/data port, and use standard memory cards. (I put a 1GB TransFlash in mine and it is amazing.) No more proprietary chargers and cables, nor goofy Sony-only "Memory Sticks."
Fourth, the Bluetooth. Motorola has come a long way to improve their implementation, and though it is not as full featured as Sony Ericsson's, it is almost unshakable in its stability. (Sony Ericsson has the reverse trend. The T616 had great Bluetooth, the S710a's was unstable. The new W600 and W900 are equally unstable.) Range is excellent, too.
Fifth, reception and call quality are both excellent. Volume could be better, but is still adequate. I have to admit, though, that the S710a was slightly better with earpiece and speakerphone audio volume and quality.
Finally, the much maligned UI. Yes, Sony Ericsson trumps everyone with their interface and Address Book; Motorola executes both of these rather clumsily, thus requiring a steep learning curve. However, two areas where Moto outshines Sony Ericsson are 1) consistent UI responsiveness and 2) broad customizability.
My only other gripe is the 50 song limit in iTunes, even with the memory card upgrade. However, I'm an iPod owner, so this doesn't concern me too much.
Now for a word of warning to Mac users. My iTunes-equipped V3i, unlocked and unbranded, came from an overseas market (phone and manual languages included UK English, Vietnamese, Bhasat, and Thai). It has full Bluetooth functionality with my Mac, including iSync. However, some V3i's don't work over Bluetooth - the Mac can't "see" any of the phone's services, thus preventing file transfers or iSync-ability without a USB connection. I can't say for sure if this is related to iTunes or not, but so far it seems the iTunes-loaded V3i's work better. Caveat emptor!

Samsung T401G Pre-Paid Cell Phone for Net10 with Bluetooth - Black Review

Samsung T401G Pre-Paid Cell Phone for Net10 with Bluetooth - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i've been a person who has signed alot of contracts for phone service w/ all kinds of carriers (Alltel, Cingular, CellOne, Verizon, T-Mobile). I wanted to get away from contracts, let's face it, they suck, as do early termination fees. I wasn't thrilled about buying another cellphone just so i could have pre-paid service - that is the downside. Not to mention i bought a Samsung Gravity 2 - used it for 6 months and upgraded/bought the Gravity 3. Used the G3 for a few months before switching to Net10 - Samsung T401g. Luckily i found a refurb model selling for $40 on amazon. Let me list the pro's & con's for you ppl thinking about going over to this service:
PRO's:
- no contract, no credit check (pretty much everything the website tells you - ['] )
- slight variety of phones (flip, slider, imitation blackberry model, regular no flip/no slider models). The less fancy the phone, the cheaper the cost of the phone - i.e. flips and non-flip models should be under $20 (and on amazon, some selling for as low as $4!!)
- pretty easy to use service
- pretty easy to use phone (if you are used to Samsung Gravity models - t401g is almost exact - only diff color and thicker)
- easy to add airtime (can buy the cards at various locations - gas stations, best buy, etc - or buy them from the net10 website, or even from your phone)
- accessory kit is cheap (usually $14.99) and comes with alot of stuff - car charger, earpiece (handsfree), wall charger, different adapters
- texting is cheaper - .30 a text to send and recieve
- activation can be done online thru net10 website
- you can keep an existing number from one of your other cellphones, but you do have to keep that other cellphone service active in order to keep that number
CON's:
- REFURB MODELS: DON'T BUY A REFURB unless you are very tech savvy and have some patience to deal with various issues that may pop up
- CUSTOMER SERVICE: Net10's ONLINE customer service is a complete joke and waste of time! Trust me when i say --> call the customer service number, and you will have your problem(s) solved within 20-45 min (depending on the problem) other then waiting days and weeks for online tech's to help you. if you have a facebook account - don't even bother with Net10 online tech's there for help - they are UBER SLOW!
- T401G PHONE: the t401g phone is kinda flimsy - you can tell that this is a cheap made phone. (i'm just comparing it to the other phones i've had over the yrs - Samsung Gravity 2 & 3, LG models, Motorola RAZR, etc)
- TEXTING: be aware that while it costs .30 to send and recieve - if you don't delete your message after you read it, and say you delete the next day - it will charge you another .30 just to delete it... it only does that cuz it thinks you are reading it again. Unlike features on the Gravity 2 & 3 and most phones where you can just go to inbox, see your list of msg's and click delete on them - the t401g does not let you do that.. in order to delete a msg you have to go back to it, and then you can delete it. Hence the repeat .30 charge. So if you want to avoid a repeat charge, just delete them as soon as you read them.
Also be advised that you may have to speak to customer service in order to activate the .30 charge rate for texting - not all of them do it automatically.
- PICTURE MESSAGING: major downer for this phone - i know it's not the signal where i was - i had good signal - but it took forever for a pic msg to come thru - i retrieved about 4-5 times - each time you retrieve it costs like .50 - but as it does the process and is downloading or retrieving - it keeps hitting you every so often w/ repeat .50 charges, and then you never get the pic. maybe the pic my friend was sending was too big of a file - i'm not sure. i had one pic get thru just fine and only got charged .30, this other one - i lost patience and just deleted it. if i had to pay more then 5.00 in charges to see it, not worth it. pic retrieving time varies - can be slow and sometimes can be fast
- PORTING NUMBERS: keeping a number from another cellphone you may have w/ another carrier - i.e. t-mobile, at&t, etc... yes you can port the number to your net10 phone, but that # will only be able to be ported and remain as your net10 number so long as the other service stays active. so if you got at&t or what not and 678-093-1124 as a number and you port it to your net10 phone, it will port. but if you cancel your at&t service, you will lose that # as your net10 number and have to change to a diff one. (May work well if you have other tracfones or net10 phones for porting - i wouldn't reccommend using a contract service number to your pre-paid - for obvious reasons - you're probaly wanting to terminate your contract so you can go pre-paid and pay less, so why port the contract # and pay for 2 phones. that's just stupid and ridiculous.)Additional comments: I'm not really too disappointed with the net10 service or the phone - i am paying cheaper then what i was w/ contract carriers. My biggest peeve was getting it activated and the zillions of codes i had to enter into the phone from cust. service in order to troubleshoot all the issues i was having. That's why i gave it a 4 star rating.
Suggestions: If you don't use your phone much and you do want to keep the cost low - i suggest buying the airtime cards that give you more days then minutes. a 300 min card gives you like 60 days i think. while a 750 min card gives you only 30 days, and you have to buy a card each month to keep the service active if you buy the monthly cards. you can switch over anytime to the other cards - the pay as you go ones- but if you do that, it will erase whatever monthly min you have from the monthly cards.
The only way you get the rollover minutes from Net10 (and yes they do rollover) - are if you buy the Pay As You Go Cards - these are the ones that cost as low as $15. These are the ones that are your 150 min, 300 min, 1000 min, etc... and you can keep buying these and entering in the code and it will rollover any unused so long as it is pay as you go cards.
However if you buy the monthly cards - 750 min $25/unlimited $50 - you have to reload either w/ another monthly, or you can delete any remaining monthly min if you buy a Pay As You Go card and reload with that.
I made the mistake of buying the 750min card - i'm a huge texter, but not a huge talker - so i am going to switch over to the pay as you go so i can get more service days out of my phone. buying the monthly cards is like being on a contract almost - got to reload every month. i'd rather reload every couple months or more, or not have to worry about if i buy the 1000 min card for example.
hope that helps ( i will also upload images of the phone and accessory kit)
